I am buying a sewing machine. Need a little help please!?

I am thinking of buying a sewing machine. I want something old school that has a table with it. (Older things tend to work better and last longer. This is a fact. I have recently purchased a typewriter that will be around when computers are dust!) I need something that will make tons of beautiful quilts and I am starting to make my own clothes. Also, its a handy thing to have. Where should I go? What is a good price range? What is the best model???
