Bote and lata synonyms in spain but what about in Mexico?

Ive noticed that in spain lata and bote are synonyms but what about in Mexico, Because Mexican-Americans in Texas use botes for cans instead of latas and it had to have come from Mexico cause theyre of Mexican Descent obviously, Where in Mexico do they use bote for can?
